South Lebanon Baptist Mission was organized into a church on October 3, 1948 in the old Town Hall on McKinley Street in the village of South Lebanon with 34 members. The sponsoring church was Westside Baptist Church in Dayton Ohio, later becoming Far Hills Baptist Church. The Church voted on February 26, 1949 to build a basement on the property on Mason Road and the Church moved to the Mason Road location and the name was changed to First Baptist Church South Lebanon.
First Baptist Church South Lebanon has sponsored several churches over the years including but not limited to First Baptist, Loveland; Grace Baptist, Loveland; Church in Twenty Mile Stand, Landen and another in Loveland which are no longer in operation; Pekin Baptist in Lebanon; Blackhawk Baptist, now Faith Baptist in Blanchester; and have graciously given financially to support many other churches and missions in Ohio.
After several additions and remodels to the former building located on the Mason Road location, we still found ourselves without adequate room to sufficiently meet the needs of our church family as well as our community. So we decided that the Lord was leading us to explore the area for property that would allow us for more room to meet our needs now as well as growth in the future.
The property across from our current building which was being used for a “Coomer’s Furniture” store became available. There was also a vacant 3 acre lot adjoining the building that went up on the market in the same time period as the Coomer building. So the church body agreed to enter into a partnership with the Warren County Head Start for a total of 6 years that allowed use of the building in exchange for remodeling and rent payments.
In 2001 the project started headed by a group of volunteers from Trustville, Alabama. The new church on 505 W. Mason Rd. Was built on the love, hard work, and servitude to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The members were so blessed with what God was providing for them that they held their first service in 2001 in the unfinished sanctuary in folding chairs, flashlights, and nothing more than their love for the Lord and their voices to celebrate their 53rd Homecoming. A celebration that will be remembered by many as one of the most honest true to the heart God worshiping services ever. In late October 2001 the building was officially opened.
First Baptist Church South Lebanon currently shortened to First Baptist South Lebanon has been the home of 8 pastors since the birth of our ministry. From the first Pastor in 1948 George Haney to our current Pastor David Frasure, First Baptist South Lebanon has seen and sent many people across the community, the state, the country, and even the world to fulfill the great commission. First Baptist South Lebanon’s vision statement meaning has not changed. Whether it is 2016 or 1948, First Baptist South Lebanon wants to “Lead Everyone we touch to know Jesus Christ and to follow Him.”
Uniting with the other community churches Pastor David Frasure has used everything community gatherings to church events to share the love of Jesus Christ with the people of South Lebanon and beyond. That is why the mission statement for First Baptist South Lebanon stands at “A Family of Friends on Mission with God.” First Baptist South Lebanon are a family that have chosen to enter into a family that by the grace of God are on a mission to spread the gospel to the world.
Local missions like the bread ministry that is used to help feed the bellies of the people of South Lebanon but also the hearts as well with the love of Christ. Clothesline ministry that helps clothe the backs of the people that otherwise could be without. The community festival that brings the local churches together to demonstrate the unity in Christ to help build a better community through the love of Jesus Christ.
State missions like paint Cleveland that accomplished numerous homes painted in the city of Cleveland Ohio for the elderly and less fortunate while sharing the gospel and love of Jesus Christ. Camp Seneca that host our youth from all areas to assist in growing their spirit in the Lord and fellowship with other believers to equip them in maturing into the Christian they pray to be.
US missions like Alaska hope. Seeing volunteers traveling into Alaskan villages repairing homes and communities while holding backyard Bible studies each evening. Repairing homes during the day and souls at night with the Lord.
Worldwide missions like Malawi Africa that sees First Baptist South Lebanon send a handful of members each and every year. Setting up churches, building shelters, and sharing the gospel.
First Baptist South Lebanon has been and continues to be very active with the mission of spreading the love and gospel of our Lord and Savour Jesus Christ. Come and be a part of history! Come and be a part of the plan God has for First Baptist South Lebanon!
